Averill Announces 2017 Field Hockey Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Head coach Jennifer Averill and the Wake Forest field hockey program unveiled the team's 2017 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The Demon Deacons will compete in 18 regular season contests, including seven at home at Kentner Stadium.
Eleven contests will be on the road this season, three of which will be neutral site games. The Demon Deacons will face nine 2016 NCAA Tournament teams, including national runner-up North Carolina.
The Demon Deacons begin the 2017 season in Iowa City, Iowa for a ACC/Big Ten Challenge rematch where they will face the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, Aug. 26th and the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday, Aug. 27. The Deacs will then travel to University Park, Pa. for a pair of contests against Indiana and Penn State Sept. 1 and 3.
Wake Forest will open its home schedule and ACC action Sept. 8 and 10 with a pair of contests against North Carolina and Ohio State. The Deacs then hit the road for a three-game swing at Syracuse Sept. 16 and at Louisville and against Miami Ohio in Louisville, Ky. on Sept. 22 and 24. The Deacs close the month of September when they host Virginia on Sept. 29.
The Deacs open October at home against Liberty on Oct. 1 before heading to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State on Oct. 4. On Oct. 8, Wake Forest will host the Richmond Spiders at Kentner Stadium and then hit the road for a two-game stretch at Duke and James Madison on Oct. 13 and 15.
The team will play its final regular-season conference game at home against Boston College on Oct. 20. The Deacs will then face Davidson on the road Oct. 22 and close out the regular season at home against American on Oct. 27.
