Deacs Hit the Road for ACC Matches
The Demon Deacons head to Pittsburgh, Pa. to face the Panthers on Friday, April 7. The Deacs will stay on the road as they travel to Louisville, Ky. to take on the Cardinals on Sunday, April 9. First serve is set for 4 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively.
Last season Wake Forest topped Pitt 5-2 in Winston-Salem. Since Pitt joined the ACC, the Deacs have a perfect 3-0 record against the Panthers.
During the 2015-16 season, the Demon Deacons defeated the Cardinals 6-1 in Winston-Salem.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest traveled to Charlotesville, Va. to rematch the No. 32 Cavaliers. The Deacs came out victorious 4-3 after dropping the doubles point. Kimmy Guerin, Emma Davis, Joanna Zalewski and Luisa Fernandez were all victorious in singles to clinch the win for the Deacs.
The Demon Deacons were not able to have an undefeated weekend as Wake Forest was topped 6-1 by No. 10 Georgia Tech. The Demon Deacons grabbed the doubles point from the Yellow Jackets with wins on the first and third court.
Undefeated in February
This season, the Deacs completed the entire month of February without dropping a single match. This is the first time the Demon Deacons have gone undefeated in February in recent history.
Deacs in the Rankings
The ITA released its updated rankings on April 4. The Deacs moved down to the No. 28 spot after defeating No. 32 Virginia this past weekend.
Kimmy Guerin is ranked the No. 45 player in the nation by the ITA. She opened the season ranked No. 33 in the country, the highest ranked Deacon since Martina Pavelec was No. 24 on March 29, 2011.
Guerin has now recorded 150 career-wins as a Demon Deacon. This is the first time a Deac has accomplished this feat since Sasha Kulikova did in 2010.
The duo of Samantha Asch and Joanna Zalewski enter the rankings for the first time this season. The pair claim the No. 85 spot.
The Captains
Wake Forest's three seniors - Samantha Asch, Luisa Fernandez and Kimmy Guerin - are serving as the team captains in 2017.
