Wake Forest Keeps Pace at ACC Championship

ATLANTA, Ga. - Two more Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors on the second day of competition at the 2017 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday.

Ellie Abrahamson and Amy Collins garnered First Team All-ACC honors after Abrahamson finished second in the 3000m steeplechase and Collins took third in the heptathlon.

Abrahamson finished second and broke her school record in the steeplechase with a time of 10:06.42, replacing her previous best time of 10:09.59 set at the Virginia Challenge earlier this season.

Collins finished third in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 5,387, replacing the 5,001 she set at the ACC Championship last season. Collins set outdoor personal bests in all seven heptathlon events, including today's long jump, javelin and 800m run. Collins jumped 5.79m (19-0) in the long jump to replace her previous best of 5.60m (18-4.5), threw 33.68m (110-6) in the javelin to replace a previous best of 30.57m (100-3) and ran 2:15.42 in the 800m to replace her previous best of 2:18.04.

Also in the heptathlon, Jordan Banks finished 11th with 4,449 points, crushing her previous best heptathlon score of 3,772. Banks set outdoor bests in all three events today with a 5.77m (18-11.5) mark in the long jump, 25.69m (84-3.5) mark in the javelin and 2:25.18 time in the 800m. She replaces her previous marks of 5.15m (17-1.5) in the long jump, 21.96m (72-0) and 2:27.24 in the 800m.

On the track, Hunter Roberts finished 20th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.89, just shy of her personal best.

In the 3000m steeplechase alongside Abrahamson, Beatrice Boylan took 13th with a time of 11:01.08 while Sarah Fahmy finished 14th with a time of 11:04.21.

On the men's side, Robert Heppenstall finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:49.21. Heppenstall won his heat and automatically qualified for the finals held Sunday at 6:50 p.m. John Archie finished with a personal-best time of 1:51.40 and Andrew Fea ran 1:52.52.

In the men's steeplechase, Alexander Giacco finished 12th with a time of 9:34.47.

Amy Collins tied for ninth in the high jump after clearing the 1.67m bar (5-5.75). Also in the field, Max Adams took 12th in the shot put with a mark of 15.14m (49-8.25).

After two days of competition, the women are in seventh with 17.5 points on nine events scored while the men are in ninth with 15 points on eight events scored.

The final day of competition in the ACC Championship begins Sunday at 2 p.m. with the men's discus.
