THE MATCHUP
• No. 12 Wake Forest will face No. 1 North Carolina in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament on Friday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. in Louisville.
• The Deacons advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2008.
• The game will be streamed on NCAA.com.
LAST TIME OUT
• Wake Forest upset third-ranked Duke in double overtime to advance to the Final Four.
• Anne van Hoof scored the game winner with an assist form Emily Adamson from close range with eight minutes remaining in the second overtime as the Deacons broke the scoreless gridlock and topped the Blue Devils 1-0.
QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 27th season at the helm of the program
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad, led by Jule Grashoff, who paced the team with 16 goals and 14 assists. The club also welcomes eight new freshmen.
• Grashoff was tabbed Preseason All-ACC, voted on by the league's seven coaches. Wake Forest was picked to finish seventh in the conference.
• Former U.S. National Team captain Melissa Gonzalez joins Wake Forest as an assistant coach. Gonzalez spent the past eight years competing with the U.S. Women's National Team and representing Team USA at two Olympic Games.
• Anderson leads the nation in assists per game with 1.33. She has notched 28 assists so far this season.
• Grashoff ranks seventh nationally and leads the ACC in goals per game (1.07) with 24 total goals. Her 69 career goals ranks third all-time in Wake Forest history and she is also third all-time with 173 career points .
• Anderson is tied for first place in the Wake Forest record books with 60 assists. With one more, she will become the all-time assist leader in Wake Forest history.
• Grashoff garnered All-ACC First Team honors, while Anderson, Veerle Bos and Anne van Hoof were all named Second Team.
• Wake Forest has scored 24 goals off penalty corners this season.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
• North Carolina enters the Tournament as the No. 1 seed with an undefeated record of 21-0 and 6-0 in ACC play.
• The Deacons fell to the Tar Heels 7-2 in the finals of the ACC Tournament on Nov. 4 as UNC claimed the 2018 ACC Championship.
• ACC Freshman and Offensive player of the Year leads the squad with 17 goals and 18 assists for 52 points. Ashley Hoffman and Catherine Hayden have each contributed 16 goals.
• Defensively, Amanda Hendry has played in every game in the cage this season, collecting 38 saves and only allowing 12 goals through 1185 minutes.
• UNC Head Coach Karen Shelton was named ACC Coach of the Year, while Hoffman garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors.
