The Matchup
• The No. 1-seeded and second-ranked Demon Deacons open NCAA Championship play with a second-round game against Colgate on Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN3.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest has been off since a Nov. 7 loss to No. 10 Louisville in overtime in the ACC Championship semifinals. The Demon Deacons received a bye in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, which was played on Thursday.
• After the Cardinals struck first with a goal in the 44th minute, Wake Forest received the equalizer from Joey DeZart in the 52nd minute off an assist from Logan Gdula.
• Elijah Amo scored the game-winner for Louisville in the 98th minute, as he had a shot deflect off a defender and bounce over the keeper's head.
Quick Kicks
• The Deacs earned the top overall seed in the NCAA Championship for the third time in Bobby Muuss' four-year tenure. Wake Forest is 8-3-0 in the tournament under Muuss, including runs to the NCAA quarterfinals each year and a trip to the College Cup final in 2016.
• Wake Forest was ranked No. 5 in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll and moved up to No. 1 in the first weekly poll. The Deacs have been ranked in the top five in 33 consecutive polls dating back to the middle of the 2016 season - 22 more weeks than any other program (Indiana - 11).
• The Deacs are once again one of the top teams in the country. Wake Forest has the third-highest winning percentage in the nation, and is second nationally with 50 goals.
• Wake Forest has a lot of new faces after sending seven into the MLS ranks following the 2017 season. Still, the Deacs brought in the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, headlined by top-50 recruits Isaiah Parente, Kyle Holcomb, Koby Carr and Aristotle Zarris.
• Since the start of the Bobby Muuss era in 2015, Wake Forest has a 72-10-7 overall record. That win total is the most of any Division I program.
Opponent & Series History
• Wake Forest is meeting Colgate for the first time in program history. The Deacs have a 3-4-0 record all-time against teams currently in the Patriot League, but has won two straight (Navy in 2013, Boston U in 2012) since its last loss to the conference, coming to American in 2001.
• The Raiders have won five in a row and eight of their last nine, including a 1-0 upset at No. 22 New Hampshire in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. Last year, Colgate beat UMass and Michigan on the road to reach the round of 16 for the first time.
• Oliver Harris (5g, 4a, 14 pts) and Steven DeLeo (4g, 1a, 9 pts) have paced the offense, while Jacob Harris (0.64 GAA, .821 save pct.) has played nearly every minute in goal.
Up Next
• The winner of this game plays the winner of No. 16 seed Syracuse and Akron on either Nov. 24 or 25 in the round of 16.
