Four Deacons Garner NFHCA All-Region Honors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Four Wake Forest field hockey players were named to the 2018 South All-Region teams, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced on Monday.
Seniors Megan Anderson, Veerle Bos, and Jule Grashoff all earned first team honors, while sophomore Anne van Hoof was named to the All-South Region second team. This is the third consecutive year Grashoff has made first team. Anderson and Bos earn first team honors for the first time after previously being named to the second team (Bos 2016, Anderson 2017). Van Hoof makes the list for the first time in her career.
The Deacons are coming off a trip to the Final Four, where they fell to eventual national champion North Carolina. It was the first time since 2008 that Wake Forest advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Grashoff led the ACC and ranked seventh in the nation with a career-high 24 goals during the season. She also added six assists for a team-high 54 points. Grashoff finishes her Wake Forest career ranked third all-time with 69 career goals and third with 173 career points. The Bremen, Germany native was also named All-ACC first team and to the NCAA All-Tournament team this season.
Anderson completes her Demon Deacon campaign becoming the all-time leader in Wake Forest history with 61 career assists, 29 of which came during her senior season to lead the nation (1.26 assists per game). She tallied the record-breaking assist in the semifinal game of the NCAA Tournament. Anderson has started all 81 games during her four years with the Deacs. She earned All-ACC second team honors this season and was selected to play in the NFHCA Senior Game.
Bos recorded two goals and a career-high 11 assists during her senior season. She helped anchor a back line that held opponents to just 2.35 goals against average. She played a key role in penalty corners for the Deacons as the primary inserter. Bos was also named All-ACC second team.
Sophomore van Hoof garners NFHCA honors for the first time in her career after scoring eight goals and tallying three assists for the Deacons. She was third on the team behind Grashoff and Anderson with 19 points. Van Hoof recorded two goals in Wake's win over William & Mary. The Schijndel, Netherlands native was one of the primary strikers on penalty corners for the Deacs. Van Hoof also ranked fourth in the ACC with two defensive saves (0.11 per game).
