The Matchup
Wake Forest continues non-conference play with a trip to Triad foe UNCG on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
The game will be the first for Wake Forest to air on ESPN+, the new ESPN subscription-based streaming service.
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons completed their first road sweep since 2014 by outscoring Boston College, 11-1 over the weekend. Wake Forest recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1997 and the one run allowed was the fewest by the program in a three-game ACC series.
Griffin Roberts was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. He led the way in a one-hitter on Friday night, tossing 8.0 shutout frames with 11 strikeouts and just one walk.
Morgan McSweeney added 6.0 shutout innings with 11 strikeouts in the nightcap Friday, while Colin Peluse improved to 6-0 by earning the win in Saturday's series finale. Chris Lanzilli led the offense with a double in each game, as well as three hits and two RBIs on Saturday.
Wake Forest Storylines
The Demon Deacons are a youthful squad in 2018, having started six different freshmen position players, while five rookies have seen time on the mound. Out of the position players, 153 starts have been made by freshmen (46.0 percent), compared to 75 for sophomores (22.5 percent), 105 for juniors (31.5 percent) and none by seniors.
On the mound, approximately two-thirds of innings pitched have been by underclassmen. None have been thrown by seniors, 121.0 by juniors (36.0 percent), 151.1 innings by sophomores (45.0 percent) and 64.0 frames from the freshmen (19.0 percent).
Head coach Tom Walter became the third skipper in program history to record 250 wins at the helm of the program. He accomplished the feat at Notre Dame on March 25.
Opponent And Series History
Wake Forest leads the all-time series against UNCG, 41-15. The Spartans, however, won the February meeting in Winston-Salem by an 11-5 margin.
UNCG enters the weekend with a 26-9 overall record, including a 7-2 mark in the Southern Conference. The Spartans are hitting .320 as a team, led by Andrew Moritz, currently hitting at a .437 clip.
