ATLANTA, Ga. -- Xzavion Curry threw a complete-game shutout to lead Georgia Tech over Wake Forest, 7-0, at Russ Chandler Stadium on Friday night.

The game was a pitchers' duel through the first seven innings, with the Yellow Jackets (23-20, 10-12 ACC) holding a 1-0 lead over the Demon Deacons (19-24, 10-12 ACC) heading into the eighth.

Two bunt singles and another infield single sparked a six-run inning for Georgia Tech in the eighth as the game was pushed out of reach.

Curry allowed just two hits and two walks over 9.0 innings with 12 strikeouts.

Wake Forest starter Griffin Roberts extended his streak of pitching at least 6.0 innings with 8+ strikeouts. He fanned nine in 7.1 innings, but was tagged with all six eighth-inning runs.

The Deacs had three baserunners in the first two innings, including the only two hits from Shane Muntz and Michael Ludowig, but the only runner after that came via a fifth-inning walk. Curry retired the final 13 Deacons who came to the plate.

Austin Wilhite hit a bloop double and scored on a Colin Hall RBI single to put GT on the board in the fifth. In the eighth, Chase Murray and Wilhite recorded the big blows with a two-run single apiece.

Game two of the series is set for Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
