No. 1 Deacs Sweep Notre Dame in ACC Semifinals

CARY, N.C. – The top-ranked and top-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team punched its ticket to the finals of the ACC Men's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 sweep over No. 24 Notre Dame Saturday (April 28) afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (24-2) jumped out of the gate, putting forth one of their best doubles performances of the season to seal the first point of the match. Wake Forest's doubles teams of Borna Gojo/Skander Mansouri (No. 1 doubles) and Bar Botzer/Petros Chrysochos (No. 2) played nearly identical sets, earning an early break before breaking the final game to secure matching 6-2 victories. No. 3 doubles went unfinished with the Deacs leading 5-3 as Wake Forest took the 1-0 lead into singles.
Wake Forest's dominant play carried into singles, winning the first set on five of the six courts. Botzer extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 position.
Mansouri then extended the lead to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position. In the process, Mansouri picked up his 114th career singles victory, tying the program record for most career singles wins.
Chrysochos sealed the victory with a three-set decision at the No. 2 spot. After dropping the first set, 3-6, the junior responded with 6-1 and 6-4 victories to clinch the match. The victory extended Chrysochos' winning streak to 19 matches, despite being forced to play a three-set match for the first time since November.
Sunday's ACC Championship match will begin at 2 p.m. at the Cary Tennis Park and will also be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
