WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest closed out the regular season by clinching a series win over Virginia with an 18-12 victory on Saturday afternoon at David F. Couch Ballpark.

With the win, the Demon Deacons (25-30, 13-17 ACC) also lock up the No. 9 seed at next week's ACC Championship, and will face No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Louisville in pool play. The full schedule will be released Sunday morning.

The slugfest between the Deacs and Cavaliers (28-24, 12-18 ACC) featured seven home runs and 12 doubles. Five of those homers and seven of the doubles came at the hands of Wake Forest hitters, as 12 of the team's 16 hits went for extra bases.

Wake Forest also drew nine walks as the game lasted 4:48, nearly an hour longer than the previous longest nine-inning game this season.

Jake Mueller reached base in all six of his plate appearances and finished a triple away from the cycle. He was 3-for-3 with a homer, double, three walks and four runs scored.

Chris Lanzilli stayed hot by going 2-for-5 with a homer, double and three RBIs, while Christian Long tallied a home run, two hits, two walks and three runs scored. Bobby Seymour recorded three RBIs on a homer and double and DJ Poteet left the yard for a two-run longball.

Patrick Frick added three hits, three runs and two doubles, Michael Ludowig was 2-for-4 with a double and two walks, and Shane Muntz tallied a double and two RBIs.

Virginia tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning before Chris Farish (2-0) recorded the last out of the inning. Wake Forest led the rest of the way to give Farish the victory on the mound.

Poteet and Lanzilli hit two-run homers in the bottom of the second to give the Deacs the lead for good, 7-3. Virginia cut into the deficit multiple times, including margins of 10-9, 12-10 and 13-12 before five eighth-inning runs put the game away for good.

Colin Peluse (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks) and William Fleming (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB) were the only other Deacon relievers to toss scoreless outings.

Wake Forest scored in every inning but the third, including five crooked numbers. Bobby Nicholson (2-2) was tagged with the loss for UVA, allowing five runs in 1.0+ innings.

The Cavaliers were led by Jake McCarthy (4-for-6, 2B, three RBIs) and Jack Weiller (2-for-2, 2B, HR, three RBIs).

Wake Forest honored its four graduating seniors before the game: Keegan Maronpot, Bruce Steel, bullpen catcher Chris Schafer and student manager Frankie Scimeca.
