GREENSBORO, N.C. - Emma Davis of the Wake Forest women's tennis team was named to the All-ACC First Team, the league office announced Thursday (May 3). The team was voted on by the league's 15 head coaches.
The junior from Cohasset, Massachusetts is currently ranked No. 25 in the ITA's singles rankings and, along with Chandler Carter, sits at No. 15 in the doubles rankings.
Davis' current top-25 ranking is the first for a Demon Deacon since Martina Pavelec reached No. 24 in 2011. Her doubles ranking with Carter is also the highest for a Deacon duo since 2011, when Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert were ranked No. 7 in September 2011.
In the spring, Davis compiled a 22-8 singles record, with all but one of her wins coming in the No. 1 position. She went 8-6 in ACC matches and added seven wins over nationally ranked opponents.
She was 21-5 in doubles during the spring including a 19-5 mark with Carter. The pair went 14-5 at No. 1 doubles and 5-0 at No. 2.
On January 30, Davis was named ACC Player of the Week after leading the team to wins over No. 18 Arkansas and No. 14 Ohio State during the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Columbus. She provided the clinching win over the Buckeyes, which propelled the Demon Deacons to the ITA National Women's Tennis Team Indoor Championship for the first time since 2003.
Including the fall, Davis has picked up 57 total wins this season. She is only the ninth Wake Forest player to reach at least 57 total wins in a season.
The Demon Deacons will travel to Athens, Georgia for the first and second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships. The Deacs take on No. 37 Arizona State in the first round on Friday, May 11 at 12 p.m.
