Wake Forest Hall of Famer returns to the international game

DUBLIN, Ireland – As the 28th Women's World Amateur Team Championship takes place this week at the Carton House Golf Club, there are two Demon Deacon legends competing on the world stage. While it isn't a surprise to see senior and world No. 1 Jennifer Kupcho representing on the United States, Wake Forest fans might be surprised to see the name Brenda Corrie Kuehn on the roster for the Dominican Republic.

Corrie Kuehn (Class of 1986) was the program's first player to earn first-team All-America honors. During her senior season in 1985-86, she won five times, still a Demon Deacon single-season record. That year was highlighted by her individual victory at the ACC Championship while leading the Deacs to their first team title. She was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame in 1998-99.

The World Amateur Team Championship is a biannual competition for men and women that features three-player teams competing for their country. It is also a family tradition for the Corries. Brenda's father, Jack Corrie, represented Venezuela in the inaugural event in 1958, held at the Old Course at St. Andrews. In 1986, her mother, Carmen Corrie, was the captain of the Dominican Republic team as Brenda made her debut at the event. Brenda later represented the United States at the event twice, in 1996 and 1998. Her sister, Silvia Corrie, also competed for the Dominican Republic in two WATC events.

The World Amateur Team Championship continues through Saturday in Ireland.
