Volleyball Drops ACC Opener to Miami

CORAL GABLES, FLA- The Wake Forest volleyball team (5-8, 0-1 ACC) opened conference play on the road, and fell in three sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-14) to Miami (5-3, 1-0 ACC).
The Deacons hit .213 in the match, but the Hurricanes topped Wake's efforts with a .341 hitting percentage as three Canes posted double-digit kills. At the service line, Miami collected 14 aces- the most of any team Wake Forest has faced this season.
Caitlyn Della and Olivia Saunders led the way for Wake Forest with eight kills each while Caroline Rassenfoss added six. Setter Madeline Holy posted 23 assists and libero Hailey McFadden recorded a team-high eight digs.
The Deacons got off to a slow start, only posting six kills in 28 attempts with six miscues. The tempo picked up as Wake returned in the second set and doubled its number of kills and halved its errors with 12 kills and three errors for a match-high .360 attack percentage. However, Miami was able to edge out the Deacons with 12 kills and only two errors in the second frame.
Wake Forest posted a solid .296 in the third set with 11 kills, but the Canes topped Wake Forest with a .417 hitting percentage with 12 kills and just two errors in the final set of the match.
The Deacons continue ACC play on the road as they travel to Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
