Florida State Volleyball Defeats Wake Forest 3-0

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – A third set rally from the Deacons was not enough as the Florida State Seminoles (6-6, 2-0 ACC) defeated Wake Forest (5-9, 0-2 ACC) 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 28-26) on Sunday at Tully Gymnasium.
Sophomore Myca Mitchell tallied her eighth match of the season with double-digit kills, leading the team with 10. Caroline Kuhn and Olivia Saunders added six kills each, while Kuhn also recorded two blocks.
The Deacons posted .176 hitting percentage in the first set and they struggled to contain the Seminoles who tallied 15 kills on 27 attempts with just three miscues for a .444 first set hitting percentage. Florida State maintained the momentum in the second frame, holding the Deacons to a -.027 attack percentage with seven kills and eight errors.
Down 2-0, the Deacons fought back in the third set taking an initial 6-1 lead. Florida State answered back winning eight of the next 10 points to take a 9-8 lead. Both teams went point-for-point throughout the set, until the Seminoles made back-to-back kills to take the frame 28-26 and the match in three sets to stay undefeated in ACC play.
ACC kills leader Peyton Caffrey continued to impress for the Seminoles bringing down 18 kills on 30 attempts with no errors (.600). Florida State out-blocked the Deacons 12-4 as Taryn Knuth who leads the league in blocks recorded six.
Up next, the Deacons will return home to host Syracuse on Friday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. and will welcome Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
