Deacons Complete Day Two of Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Deacons wrapped day two of the Furman Fall Classic on Saturday.
The morning started strong on the doubles courts for the Deacons as Emma Davis and Chandler Carter worked their way to an 8-5 win over Georgia Tech. Davis and Carter fell to Ohio State in their first match on Friday, but bounced back to win the next two over opponents from Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech.
Eliza Omirou and freshman Anna Brylin collected a third-place finish in the second doubles flight as they fell to Mississippi State 8-5, but rebounded with a 8-7 (4) victory over USC. After earning a tiebreak win on Friday, Anna Ulyashchenko and Peyton Pesavento dropped a narrow match to Florida State 8-6 and Vanderbilt 8-3.
Wrapping up doubles play was Alexis Franco and Saby Nihalani. On Friday, the duo earned an 8-7 (7-3) win over Mississippi State, but dropped to Furman 8-5. Franco and Nihalani collected another third-place finish for the Deacons with an 8-6 decision over a Clemson duo.
In singles, Davis earned a three-set 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Shiori Fukudaof Ohio State in Flight 1. Omirou also worked her way to a back draw win, defeating Bojana Markovic of Texas in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Ulyshchenko also competed in the back draw and picked up a 6-3, 61 win over Petra Hule from Florida State. Brylin also recorded a Saturday singles win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Andrea Garcia from Florida State.
Following a tough three-set win on Friday, Carter dropped to Summer Dvorak 6-3, 6-2, but will face Emma Antonaki from Mississippi State on Sunday for third place in Flight 3. Pesavento fell to an opponent from Furman in three sets, but looks to bounce back on Sunday against Carol Kerman of Furman on Sunday.
The final day of the tournament will be held on Sunday with matches starting at 10 a.m.
