Women’s Tennis Completes Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Wake Forest women's tennis team wrapped up the final day of the Furman Fall Classic on Sunday with seven singles wins.
Senior Emma Davis started the morning with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Petra Granic from Texas in the Flight 1 backdraw.
Chandler Carter worked her way to a third-place win in Flight 3 with a three-set, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4 victory over Mississippi State.
After falling to an opponent from Ohio State on Saturday, Joanna Zalewski fought back to defeat Sydney Riley from Clemson, 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Peyton Pesavento had a strong showing this weekend as she capped her debut collegiate tournament, defeating a Furman opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 to finish third in Flight 8. Another Wake newcomer, Saby Nihalani also finished the tournament with a win, coming out on top, 7-6, 6-0 over Ohio State in Flight 9.
Eliza Omirou and Mary Meredith each earned wins by default in Flight 2 and 7, respectively.
Up next, the Deacons will continue tournament play as they travel west to the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The tournament will run from Saturday, Sept. 29 to Sunday, October 7.
