Track & Field Gears up for Wake Forest Invitational

Field of 26 to compete at JDL Fast Track
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field programs are gearing up for action at the Wake Forest Invitational, held January 19-20 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. A mix of colleges and universities from throughout the southeast make up the group of 26 programs set for competition at the local meet.
The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. in the field with the men and women's shot put. Events will continue at 10 a.m. with the men and women's long jump, along with the women's 60m hurdles on the track. The Demon Deacons will send 12 men and 20 women to compete in the invitational. Wake Forest freshmen Ali Belvin (400m) and Sophia Lagana (400m) are set to make their collegiate debuts on Saturday. Some opponents of note are Davidson, UNC Greensboro, Queens (Charlotte), Elon, Winston-Salem State and Georgia Southern.
LAST TIME OUT | Deacs claimed four titles at the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup, earning 25 top-five finishes. Senior Alva Hicks led the way, winning the shot put event and earning second-place in the weighted throw. Freshmen Amy Harding-Delooze and Ethan Roach put their stamp on the competition in their debuts. Harding-Delooze cruised to victory in the women's mile, while Roach put his speed on display, finishing second with a personal best time of 6.96 in the 60m. Freshman Zach Facioni delivered a strong outing for the Deacs with a second-place finish in the men's mile. Fifth-year athlete Johanna Schulz impressed with a win in the women's 800m. Senior Dakota Greenwalt anchored the men's team, helping them secure a first-place finish in the 4x400 to set the tone early in the day.

Following the Wake Forest Invitational, the Demon Deacons head to Clemson, S.C. for the Bob Pollock Invitational, January 25-26. Competition will take place at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
