Deacs Drop ACC Contest to No. 4 Louisville

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A shorthanded Wake Forest women's basketball team dropped a 73-49 decision to No. 4 Louisville Sunday (Jan. 20) afternoon inside the LJVM Coliseum.

The Cardinals (17-1, 5-1 ACC) outscored the Deacs (9-9, 0-5 ACC) by 10 points in each of the first and fourth quarters, while the Deacs battled to Louisville to a three-point deficit over the middle two periods of play.

Ivana Raca led the Deacs with a team-high 11 points and was one of three Demon Deacons to bring in eight rebounds. Gina Conti had a career-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points and five assists while Ona Udoh had eight boards and four points.

Freshman Kaylen Dickson finished with nine points and Maya Banks came off the bench to add eight points and five rebounds.

The two teams traded buckets in the early going, with the action tied at 2-all and then again at 5-all early in the opening period. The Cardinals then ripped of 12 unanswered points to take a 17-5 lead before eventually owning a 19-9 advantage after the first quarter of play.

The Deacons responded out of the gate in the second period, as five consecutive points trimmed the deficit to four. Conti hit a jumper before Banks connected on a layup and a pair of free throws. The four-point deficit was the closest the Deacs would get the rest of the way, as Louisville closed out the victory.

Wake Forest outrebounded Louisville by 20, the team's second-best rebounding margin of the year and first positive rebounding margin in ACC play.

The Deacs are back in action this Thursday, January 24, on the road against in-state rival Duke. Tip-off from Cameron Indoor Stadium is set for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
