WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Seniors Emma Davis, Anna Ulyashchenko and Joanna Zalewski have been selected as co-captains for the 2019 spring season, head coach Jeff Wyshner announced on Thursday.
"It is a real privilege to announce these three incredible seniors as captains of the team," Wyshner said. "These three helped us to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 8 years when they arrived as freshmen, and their impact on the team has only continued to grow. Leaders on and off the court, these three represent everything that is great about Wake Forest and Wake Forest athletics."
Davis, a Cohasset, Mass., native has already written her name in the Wake Forest women's tennis record books. Last season, she picked up 61 combined wins to move her into ninth all-time for the best single-season record and the best since 2002. Davis has already earned over 150 career wins, ranking her in the top-20 in Wake history. In the fall, she became the first Wake Forest women's player to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw of the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships since 2001. She enters the spring season ranked No. 16.
Ulyashchenko ended the fall season earning the first ranking of her career, coming in at No. 105. She also earned consecutive doubles rankings at No. 45 alongside freshman Peyton Pesavento and No. 46 paired with Anna Brylin. Last season, Ulyashchenko went 22-15 in singles play and 22-9 on the doubles courts.
Zalewski enters her senior spring campaign with over 80 wins in a Wake Forest uniform. During the fall, Zalewski earned singles wins over opponent from Clemson and Vanderbilt as well as doubles victories against opponents from Illinois. The Linden, N.J. native is also a member of the ROTC at Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons kick off their 2019 season as they host College of Charleston and Liberty on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
