
No. 20 Wake Forest Tops Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - A pair of goals from junior Anne van Hoof lifted No. 20 Wake Forest field hockey (7-8) over Davidson (3-13) 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half with few shots on either side, Wake came out of the break scoring its first goal at the 31-minute mark. Van Hoof found the back of the net off a penalty corner with an assist from senior Kelsey Gill.
Just minutes later, Davidson answered back with the equalizer as Valerie Hajek found her way past Isla Bint on an assist from Natalie Naticchia to even the score 1-1.
40-minutes into the game, van Hoof score the go-ahead goal off another corner, this time assisted by Alexis Grippo as Wake regained the 2-1 lead.
The Deacons held a 8-4 shot advantage, putting five shots on target and dominated with seven penalty corners as Davidson was not able to receive a corner opportunity. Senior keeper Bint made two saves on the day with one in each the first and fourth quarters.
Wake will hit the road for the final time in the regular season, taking on Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Wake will return home for three straight home matches before the ACC Tournament.
