Jake Swallen and Omar Hernandez scored the first goals of their careers in the 5-0 shutout.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Five different Demon Deacons scored as No. 6 Wake Forest defeated High Point, 5-0, at Spry Stadium on Tuesday night.
Jake Swallen and Omar Hernandez each scored their first collegiate goals, while Bruno Lapa, Alistair Johnston and Kyle Holcomb also found the back of the net for the Deacs (9-2).
"I was happy with the way we played," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "Overall it was a great team performance. Everyone who was healthy played tonight."
Wake Forest out-shot the Panthers (6-5) by a 15-4 margin. Andrew Pannenberg saved the only two shots on goal he faced to earn his sixth shutout between the posts.
In the 16th minute, the High Point keeper fouled Calvin Harris in the box, and Lapa put away the penalty kick for what proved to be the game-winner.
Swallen netted his first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute, taking a loose ball and dribbling into space before unleashing a shot from 25 yards out past the keeper to push the lead to 2-0.
Johnston celebrated his 21st birthday by scoring less than two minutes into the second half. Lapa took a free kick and Harris flicked it to Johnston for the nifty far-post finish.
In the 78th minute, Isaiah Parente found a wide open Kyle Holcomb on the left edge of the box, and he beat the keeper top shelf to increase the advantage to 4-0.
The Deacs were once again fouled in the box in the 85th minute, and Hernandez put away the penalty kick to cap the scoring.
Wake Forest is back in action on Friday, traveling to No. 20 NC State for a 7 p.m. kickoff on ACCNX.
