
Deacons Sweep Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, VA.- Behind 12 kills from Caroline Kuhn, the Wake Forest volleyball team picked up its first ACC sweep of the season, downing Virginia Tech 3-0 on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Deacons delivered 41 kills and hit .278 for the match, while holding the Hokies to just 29 kills and an .047 clip. Kuhn and Olivia Saunders led the offensive attack with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Madeline Holt made her return to the court for the first time since hosting Louisville on Oct. 13 and collected 36 assists. Senior Caitlin Clarke notched 26 digs to lead the Deacons defensively.
Virginia Tech (10-19,3-13 ACC) took the opening two points of the match, but the momentum shifted to the Deacs with a 6-0 run to take an 11-5 lead. Tech rallied late in the set with a 5-0 run to cut the Deacs lead to five, 21-16. Kills from Kuhn and Caitlyn Della along with an attack error from the Hokies handed Wake the 25-17 set one victory.
Wake Forest (13-15,3-14 ACC) rallied late in the second set to earn the 2-0 match lead. Each side battled point for point in the opening minutes of the frame, but the Hokies used a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. The Deacons slowly chipped away getting within one multiple times and won seven of the last nine points for the 25-23 set two decision.
The Demon Deacons hit a match-high .407 behind 12 kills and just one error to complete the three-set sweep. A 4-0 run put Wake on top 8-5 and another big run gave the Deacs a 17-9 advantage. Tech managed to put a few more points on the board, but Wake Forest sealed the match taking the final three points of the frame behind two kills from Della.
Wake Forest closes out the 2019 season on the road against North Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m.
