
Deacs Down William and Mary and Western Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season after picking up two wins on Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. With the weekend sweep, head coach Jeff Wyshner earned his 100th career-win with the Deacons.
The Deacs started the day with a 6-1 victory over William and Mary. Wake got on the board early with back-to-back doubles wins on courts. Freshmen Anna Brylin and Peyton Pesavento made their first appearance as a duo and picked up a 6-1 win on court three. Eliza Omirou and MC Meredith soon followed with a 6-2 decision on court two to clinch the doubles point.
In singles action, No. 122 Chandler Carter cruised to a quick 6-0, 6-1 win on court six to give the Deacons a 2-0 advantage. Omirou posted a two-set victory on court three before Emma Davis clinched the match on the top court with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Wake Forest played out its remaining matches, as Anna Ulyashchenko earned the sixth and final point for the Deacs with a 6-4, 7-6 (8) win on court two.
The momentum remained with the Demon Deacons in the afternoon slate as Wake swept Western Carolina, 7-0. Alexis Franco and Pesavento took the first doubles win of the match 6-0 on court three. Davis and Carter clinched the point, 6-1.
Brylin took down Lauren McCall 6-0, 6-0 on court three to give the Deacs a 2-0 edge. Pesavento followed on court four, 6-0, 6-2 and Davs added a 6-0, 6-3 victory to clinch the match. Nihalani and Joanna Zalewski, who made her fist appearance of the spring added two set victories. All eyes turned towards court five where Franco battled with Julia Pezzuco and picked up the 6-2, 7-5 victory to seal the match.
Up next, Wake Forest returns to the WF Tennis Complex to host Winthrop on Saturday, Feb. 16. On Sunday, the Deacs will open ACC play at home against Clemson. Both matches are set for noon.
