15th-Ranked Deacs Fall to No. 3 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – The third-ranked Duke Blue Devils snapped a four-match win streak for the Deacons, defeating Wake Forest 7-0 on Friday evening at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Wake Forest moves to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in the ACC.
Duke earned the early doubles point, with two straight wins on courts one and two. 38th-ranked Emma Davis and Chandler Carter dropped 6-1 to Kelly Chen and Ellyse Hamlin. No. 34 Meible Chi and Kaitlyn McCarthy defeated MC Meredith and Eliza Omirou 6-4.
A stacked singles lineup for Duke featured three players ranked in the top-25. On the top court, No. 22 Kelly Chen defeated No. 46 Emma Davis 6-3, 6-4. Anna Ulyashchenko fell 7-5, 6-2 in a hard-fought match to No. 18 Maria Mateas. Eliza Omirou faced No. 19 Meible Chi, but dropped 6-2, 6-4.
Junior Chandler Carter rallied for a win on court six, but ultimately dropped in a tiebreak in place of the third set 6-2, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (7).
The Deacons will return home for a Sunday doubleheader against No. 32 Syracuse at 10 a.m., followed by non-conference action against NC A&T at 4 p.m.
