Wake Forest can clinch at least a share of the regular season title on Sunday
ATLANTA, Ga. – The third-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight on Friday (March 29) evening, as the Demon Deacons defeated No. 49 Georgia Tech, 4-1, at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
The Demon Deacons now sit at 23-3 overall and 9-0 in ACC play, two games ahead of second-place Virginia and Miami (6-2).
The Deacs opened action Friday by quickly taking the doubles point over the Yellow Jackets (8-9, 3-5 ACC). Borna Gojo and Alan Gadjiev secured a 6-2 victory in the top spot before the duo of Petros Chrysochos and Bar Botzer clinched the point with a 6-1 decision at the No. 2.
Chrysochos quickly pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Gojo followed shortly thereafter, as the 50th-ranked Gojo defeated No. 30 Carlos Divar, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.
After Georgia Tech picked up a victory at No. 6 singles, Botzer clinched things for the second consecutive match, coming from a set down to defeat Andrew Li, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Wake Forest plays its final road match of the regular season on Sunday, as the Deacs travel to take on Clemson. First serve is set for 1 p.m. With a win, Wake Forest would clinch at least a share of its third consecutive ACC regular season title.
