Davis Earns 100th Win; Deacons Sweep Friday Doubleheader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Emma Davis became the first Wake Forest women's player since 2002 to reach 100 career singles victories en route to a 7-0 sweep over No. 32 Georgia Tech. The Deacs capped the night with another 7-0 sweep over Duquesne in non-conference action.
The first match of the day got off to an exciting start as the doubles point came down to the top tandem of Davis and Chandler Carter. Tied up at 1-1, the 38th-ranked Wake Duo defeated the Yellow Jackets 7-6 (5) to win the opening point.
Carter was quick to put the first singles point on the board, downing Nadia Gizdova 6-3, 6-1. Eliza Omirou followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court three to put the Deacs in front 3-0. Anna Ulyashchenko clinched the match on court two, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Anna Brylin fought to a 7-6 (5) first set win and finished on court five with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 decision giving the Deacs a 5-0 lead.
Davis earned her 100th career singles win in exciting fashion, upsetting 11th-ranked Kenya Jones 7-5, 6-4 on the top court. It was her fifth win over a ranked foe this season.
Saby Nihalani sealed the sweep on court four, 6-4, 6-3.
In the second match of the night, a shuffled lineup paid off for Wake as the Deacons quickly put the opening point on the board. The top duo of Omirou and MC Meredith topped Duquesne 6-0, while Alexis Franco and Peyton Pesavento earned a 6-1 win on court three.
In singles play, Omirou picked up a quick win on court two, 6-2, 6-1 over Laurel Shymansky. Freshmen Brylin and Pesavento finished back-to-back with 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1 respective wins. Alexis Franco pushed the Deacs' lead to 4-0, clinching the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 court five decision. Ulyashchenko played in the top spot for the first time this season, downing Julianne Herman 6-2, 6-3. Joanna Zalewski completed the sweep for the Deacs with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Wake Forest returns to action at Duke on Friday (March 15) at 6 p.m.
