BLACKSBURG, VA. - Wake Forest snapped a four-match losing streak, downing Virginia Tech (8-14, 2-11 ACC) 5-2 in the Deacs' final regular season road match on Friday evening.
Wake (18-7, 8-5 ACC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead, winning two of the three doubles matches. Eliza Omirou and Anna Brylin made their first appearance as a duo, winning 6-1 on court two. Chandler Carter and Emma Davis dropped on court one, but Saby Nihalani and Alexis Franco clinched the point 6-2 on court three.
Eliza Omirou put the first singles point on the board with a quick 6-1, 6-2 win in the third spot. Freshman Peyton Pesavento extended the Deacons' lead to 3-0, topping Nina Sorkin 6-3, 6-3 on court six.
Senior Anna Ulyashchenko clinched the win for the Demon Deacons with a 6-4, 7-5 victory on court two. The Hokies put their first point on the board after Chandler Carter retied on court five. Freshman Saby Nihalani picked up a 7-5 first set win, but dropped the second set to force a tiebreak in place of the third set. The freshman outlasted Elizabet Danailova 11-9 in the tiebreak.
No. 31 Emma Davis forced a third set, but Virginia Tech earned the win on the top court 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 for the final 5-2 score.
Up next, the Deacs return home on Sunday (April 14) for Senior Day against Pitt. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
