Lanzilli Homers Twice in Loss at Florida State

Wake Forest sophomore Chris Lanzilli hit his 11th and 12th homers of the year, but the Deacs fell, 9-5.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Chris Lanzilli hit two home runs and totaled five RBIs, but Wake Forest fell to Florida State, 9-5, at Dick Howser Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Lanzilli and Patrick Frick (3-for-5, two doubles) accounted for five of the Demon Deacons' (25-19, 11-12 ACC) six hits, but Wake Forest once again fell behind big to the Seminoles (28-14, 14-9 ACC).
Florida State scored twice in the first inning and five times in the third to take a 7-0 lead, and starter CJ Van Eyk took a shutout into the fifth. Wake Forest plated three runs against him then, and he left after 5.0 innings with 11 strikeouts. Jonah Scolaro struck out six over 4.0 innings to earn his first save.
Carter Bach pitched well in relief for the Deacs, striking out five over 2.2 shutout frames, conceding just one hit and one walk.
Drew Mendoza went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs to lead Florida State's offense.
The final game of the series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday on ACC Network Extra.
