Deacs Earn No. 4 Overall Seed in NCAA Tennis Championship

Wake Forest will host the first and second rounds, beginning May 3
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's tennis team earned the No. 4 overall seed in the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships as the tournament field was announced Monday (April 29) evening.
Wake Forest's quest to repeat as national champions will begin at home, with the Demon Deacons serving as a host site for the first and second rounds. The Deacs will begin play on Friday, May 3 against Morgan State at 4 p.m. while Kentucky will meet VCU in the other opening round match. The winners will then play on Saturday, May 4, with a spot in the Super Regional round on the line. That match is also slated for a 4 p.m. start.
It is Wake Forest's seventh consecutive NCAA Championship berth and 19th in program history. The Demon Deacs are regional hosts for the fifth year in a row and sixth overall.
Morgan State, Wake Forest's opening-round opponent, captured its first-ever conference tournament title to secure the league's automatic berth. The Bears finished the year 14-7 overall and knocked off defending conference champion South Carolina State, 4-2, in the title match.
Kentucky earned an at-large berth into the field after finishing the season 15-14 overall and 5-7 in the SEC. It is the 29th bid in program history for the Wildcats, who will be making their second trip to the Winston-Salem Regional in three years. Wake Forest and Kentucky met in the second round of the 2017 tournament, with the Demon Deacons advancing with a 4-2 victory.
Virginia Commonwealth claimed their third consecutive A-10 title to earn an automatic berth into the tournament field. The Rams enter the tournament 16-9 overall and defeated Richmond, 4-0, in their conference championship match.
Tickets to the opening two rounds are $5 each, with one ticket on Friday granting entry to both matches. Tickets may be purchased at the gate beginning one hour prior to the start of play, or ahead of time at godeacs.com/tickets or by calling the Wake Forest Ticket Office at 336-758-3322 ext. 1.
