Deacs Claim Slugfest Over High Point, 14-9

4/9/2019 9:47:00 PM | Baseball

Wake Forest hit four more home runs, rallying back from deficits of 3-0 and 8-7.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest's hot hitting continued in a 14-9 victory over High Point at David F. Couch Ballpark on Tuesday night.

The Demon Deacons (19-15) and Panthers (12-18) combined for seven home runs, but Wake Forest's four blasts knocked in 10 runs while High Point's three homers drove in five.

A pair of big innings proved to be enough for the Deacs, scoring seven times in the third and six more in the seventh, each time capped off by a Brendan Tinsman home run as he recorded his first-career multi-homer game. A Deacon has now had a multi-homer effort in four-straight games: Bruce Steel in game one against Virginia Tech, Bobby Seymour in game two and DJ Poteet in game three, followed by Tinsman on Tuesday.

Chris Lanzilli and Michael Ludowig also went deep to aid the Deacon effort, while Patrick Frick was 2-for-4 with a double, walk and three runs scored.

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a passed ball in the second and solo homers from Connor Dunbar and Travis Holt in the third.

Wake Forest surged ahead with seven runs in the bottom of the third. Frick hit an RBI single and Seymour roped a two-run single, followed by a Tinsman grand slam to put the Deacs ahead, 7-3.

A three-run homer by Daniel Millwee capped a string of five-straight runs by High Point, which reclaimed an 8-7 advantage.

The Deacs took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh, hitting three homers in an inning for the first time since 2015. Lanzilli started things out with a two-run blast, followed by a three-run shot by Ludowig, his first homer of the year. Tinsman hit a solo shot after that as the Deacs went back-to-back for the first time in more than a year, taking a 13-8 lead.

Each team scored a run in the eighth to close the scoring, including another RBI from Lanzilli.

Carter Bach made his first start of the season and allowed one unearned run in 2.0 innings. Bobby Hearn struck out a batter in a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn the win and improve to 2-0, while William Fleming conceded one run over the final 2.0 frames.
