Thirteen Deacs Qualify for NCAA East Region Prelims

Three men and 10 women will represent Wake Forest at the NCAA East Preliminaries
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee has announced the participants for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships preliminary competitions. The preliminary competitions are scheduled for May 23 - 25.
The University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida will host the East Preliminary and California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California will host the West Preliminary. The top 12 competitors from each event out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
Thirteen members of the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round.
Archie Wallis (800m), Zach Facioni (5000m) and Elijah Shalaway (javelin) will represent the Demon Deacons on the men's side while Sam Halvorsen (10k) and Mimi Smith (5k and 10k), Johanna Schulz (1500m), Elise Wright (3k steeplechase), Hannah Brookover (3k steeplechase), Alva Hicks (discus), Janese Lynch (shot put), Tesia Kempski (pole vault), Danielle Konopelski (javelin) and Rachel Kern (javelin) will be on the women's side.
At the 2019 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (May 9-11), Wright earned First Team All-ACC honors after taking third in the women's 3k steeplechase. On the men's side, Facioni took home first team honors in the 5k. Halvorsen, Schulz, Kempski, Hicks, Kern and Wallis all earned second team honors in their respective events.
