Deacons Sweep Spartan-Demon Deacon Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball improved to 3-0 on the year after sweeping the Spartan-Demon Deacon Classic. Wake defeated all three opponents in straight sets.
"The team did a great job of taking care of the little things and staying focused and it showed in their composure on the court," interim head coach Randi Smart said. "We learned a lot about this group over the weekend. We look forward to getting back in the gym and continue building on this weekends' success."
Wake 3, NC Central 0
In the first match of the day, Wake cruised to a 3-0 victory over NC Central. Caitlyn Della had a steller performance leading the Deacs with 15 kills on 16 attempts (.938). She also added a team-best six assisted blocks. Freshman Peytn Suess continued to impress, adding 11 kills and six digs.Madeline Holt controlled the tempo of the offense with 19 assists, while freshman Parker Kwiatkowski added 15. Michelle Polechonski also had a career day with six kills.
After hitting a .282 clip in the first frame, Wake's offense came alive. The Deacons hit a match-high .536 in the second set with 15 kills, while holding the Eagles to a .094 hitting percentage. Wake followed with 14 kills and a .423 clip in the final stanza, while miscues crippled NC Central who only posted seven kills with just as many errors.

Wake Forest continued its offensive charge with a 3-0 victory over UNCG in the team's first road game of the season.Caroline Kuhn paced Wake Forest with 12 kills, while Suess added nine. Both teams recorded 10 kills in the first frame, but the Deacs were more efficient with a .226 clip to escape with the 25-20 set one win.
Wake followed with a 25-19 performance in the second set, hitting .265 while holding the Spartans to a .081 hitting percentage. Despite hitting just .037 in the third frame, Wake pulled away with the 25-21 decision to get the sweep.
Della was named Tournament MVP after recording 35 kills for the weekend, and Suess and Holt joined her on the All-Tournament Team.
The Deacons return to the court next weekend in the UNF Tournament. Wake will face Mercer on Friday, Sept. 6 at 12:30.
