Deacs Down William and Mary and Seton Hall

FAIRFAX, VA. – Wake Forest volleyball (10-1) continued its dominant winning streak with a sweep of the George Mason Invitational. Wake defeated host George Mason on Friday night and followed with back-to-back 3-1 victories over William and Mary and Seton Hall on Saturday.
Freshman Peyton Suess led the Deacs at the net in both matches on Saturday with 15 kills against William and Mary and a career-best 19 kills against Seton Hall. Jaclyn Childress recorded 12 total blocks on the day with a career-high eight against the Tribe. Senior Caitlin Clarke also had a career-day with 21 digs against the both the Tribe and the Pirates. Setter Madeline Holt posted a season-high 49 assists against Seton Hall.
Despite having fewer kills than William and Mary, the Deacs were able to be more efficient at the net, hitting .219 and holding the Tribe to a .170 hitting percentage. Wake picked up a 25-17 victory in the first set before William and Mary evened the match at 1-1.
The Deacs battled back to take the next two sets, 28-26 and 25-22 for the win. Wake Forest hot a match-high .429 in the fourth stanza with 15 kills and no errors to top the Tribe.
In the final game of the tournament, Wake defeated the Seton Hall Pirates in four sets. The Deacs notched a .455 hitting percentage on 18 kills and just three miscues in the first frame to take a 1-0 match lead.
Wake extended its lead to 2-0 with a 25-19 decision in the second. Seton Hall cut the deficit in half with a 25-20 victory in the third set to force a fourth stanza. Wake Forest held the Pirates to just six kills with seven errors and a -0.025 clip to pick up the 25-15 fourth set victory to take the match 3-1.
The Deacs will open ACC play at home next weekend as they welcome Florida State and Miami to Reynolds Gym, Friday and Sunday at 6 and 1 p.m., respectively.
