Wake Forest Falls to Miami in ACC Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest dropped its ACC-opener to Miami inside Reynolds Gym on Friday night, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21).
Caitlyn Della led the Demon Deacons (10-2, 0-1 ACC) with nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage.
A trio of Hurricanes (5-4, 1-0 ACC), Kennedy Prince, Janet Kalaniuvalu and Elizaveta Lukianova, tallied 10 kills apiece, while Madison Dill added nine.
For the Deacs, Madeline Holt added 23 assists and a pair of kills, while Peyton Suess had five kills and Caroline Rassenfoss notched two in addition to a team-high three blocks.
After the opening set started even at 7-7, Miami went on a 14-3 run to take control of the set, fueled by back-to-back aces and four blocks.
The Deacs had a 15-14 advantage in the second set before Miami took the lead for good with four-straight points.
Wake Forest jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third set, but Miami scored eight of the next 11 points and held onto the lead to clinch the match.
Caitlin Clarke had a team-high six digs while Paige Sebesta followed with five.
Wake Forest is in action again Sunday, playing host to Florida State at 1 p.m.
