Wake Forest Volleyball Falls to No. 23 Florida State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 23 Florida State (8-3, 2-0 ACC) earned a three-set sweep over Wake Forest (10-3, 0-2 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Gym.
Freshman Peyton Suess once again paced the Deacon offense with 16 kills as well as a team-best three blocks and seven digs. Junior setter Madeline Holt notched 31 assists, while senior defensive specialist Caitlin Clarke tabbed 14 digs.
Florida State hit .247 for the match, while holding the Deacons to a .180 hitting percentage. Both sides came out aggressive, battling back-and-forth until a 5-0 run shifted the momentum in the Seminoles' favor. Wake Forest rallied back to regain the lead momentarily, but Florida State jumped back in front for the remainder of the set, taking a 1-0 match lead with a 25-19 decision.
Both teams recorded 14 kills in the second frame, but another strong run by the Seminoles put FSU on top 13-6. Wake got within four at 16-12, but Florida State's offense led by Payton Caffrey captured the 25-20 second set win to take a 2-0 match lead.
The Deacs opened the third set with a 3-2 lead, but a 3-0 run from the Noles handed FSU the momentum that it would not relinquish for the remainder of the match. Wake trailed closely for the first half of the set and tied the frame at 13-13. Florida State tallied another strong run to take a 19-14 lead. The Seminoles capped the match with a 25-17 victory in the final frame.
Wake Forest returns to action next weekend as the Deacs face Syracuse and Boston College on the road. Friday's contest against the Orange is set for 7 p.m., while Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m.
