THE MATCHUP
• Wake Forest will host Syracuse on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 18 & 19 at Kentner Field.
• Both matches are set for noon and will air on ACCNX with Jonathon Hoppe and former Demon Deacon Kelsey Gill on the call.
• At this time, we can not accommodate fans at Kentner Stadium, but we hope to be able to do so again soon.
LAST TIME OUT
• Wake Forest fell to undefeated Louisville 2-1 on Saturday. The Cards took an early 1-0 lead but Anne van Hoof tied the game in the third quarter with her first goal of the season off a penalty corner from fellow senior Alexis Grippo.
• Sunday's meeting was canceled due to the weather and field conditions. There is no makeup game scheduled at this time.
QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 29th season. She is 384-200-3 (.654) during her tenure with the Deacs.
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad and welcome eight freshmen and a sophomore.
• Wake returns its top-three goal scorers from last season. Laia Vancells led the Deacs in 2019 with 16 points off six goals and four assists. Anne van Hoof netted a team-best seven goals and Alexis Grippo tallied five goals and five assists.
• The ACC is the only conference participating in field hockey this fall. The Deacs will play most ACC schools twice, with only one game counting as a conference match. The NCAA Field Hockey Championship will take place in the spring.
• Elisha Evans, Alexis Grippo and Anne van Hoof return for their senior seasons to lead the Deacs and were all three voted captains for the 2020 campaign.
• Jen Averill is assisted by former Team USA teammates Melissa Gonzalez and Jackie Kintzer Briggs. It is the only all female coaching staff at Wake Forest.
• Megan Anderson ('19) returns to her home turf as a volunteer assistant with the Demon Deacons.

• The Orange picked up their first win of the season, a 4-3 decision against Duke last Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. They lost their first two games of the season against Virginia, both by one goal.
• Freshman Florine van Boetzelaer leads 'Cuse with three goals this season and was named ACC and NFHCA National Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in Syracuse's victory over the Blue Devils last week.
