THE MATCHUP
• Wake Forest field hockey returns home after a bye week to host Louisville on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 and 11.
• Saturday's match is set for ACC Network Extra and will begin at noon, while Sunday's match will air on RSN with a 2:00 start time. Only Saturday's meeting with count in the ACC standings.
• This event will not be able to accommodate any fans, but the University hopes to do so again soon.
LAST TIME OUT
• Wake Forest split a two-game series on the road against Virginia, taking the first match 2-1. UVA evened the series with a 1-0 victory in the second game.
• Freshman Grace Delmotte recorded her first collegiate goal and junior Laia Vancells scored the game-winner in the 2-1 decision. Elisha Evans and Eleanor Winants were both credited with assists.
• After 57-minutes of scoreless action, Virginia broke the gridlock, scoring with just three minutes remaining in the final game of the weekend, sealing the ACC victory.
QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 29th season. She is 384-199-3 (.660) during her tenure with the Deacs.
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad and welcome eight freshmen and a sophomore.
• Wake returns its top-three goal scorers from last season. Laia Vancells led the Deacs in 2019 with 16 points off six goals and four assists. Anne van Hoof netted a team-best seven goals and Alexis Grippo tallied five goals and five assists.
• The ACC is the only conference participating in field hockey this fall. The Deacs will play most ACC schools twice, with only one game counting as a conference match. The NCAA Field Hockey Championship will take place in the spring.
• Elisha Evans, Alexis Grippo and Anne van Hoof return for their senior seasons to lead the Deacs and were all three voted captains for the 2020 campaign.
• Jen Averill is assisted by former Team USA teammates Melissa Gonzalez and Jackie Kintzer Briggs. It is the only all female coaching staff at Wake Forest.
• Megan Anderson ('19) returns to her home turf as a volunteer assistant with the Demon Deacons.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
• Louisville hits the road for the first time this season, making the trip to Winston-Salem undefeated at 4-0, 3-0 ACC.
• Last weekend, the Cardinals snapped North Carolina's 47- game winning streak dating back to 2017. The Cardinals also defeated Boston College in their last outing.
• Louisville swept the ACC Field Hockey weekly accolades as Mercedes Pastor was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and Meghan Schneider was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
• Pastor tallied four points with a goal and two assists. Schneider helped the Louisville defense to a 1.00 goals-against average on the weekend and also tallied a goal and an assist as part of the Cardinals' attack penalty corner unit.
LOOKING AHEAD
• The Deacons will continue their five-match home stand hosting Syracuse on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 18 & 19.
