THE MATCHUP
• Wake Forest earned the No. 5 seed in the ACC Championship and will face No. 4 Virginia on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
• The winner of Thursday's match will advance to take on top-seeded Louisville on Friday in the semifinals.
• The ACC Championship will now be held in Chapel Hill at Karen Shelton Stadium.
• The Deacs split their regular season series with the Cavaliers, defeating Virginia 2-1 in the first game and falling 1-0 in the ACC contest.
• All ACC Championship games will air on ACC Network with Eric Frede and Leah Secondo on the call.

LAST TIMEOUT
• Wake suffered its worst loss of the season on Friday, falling 5-0 to North Carolina, but bounced back to pick up its largest win of the season, a 6-2 decision against Boston College to close out the regular season.
• Five Deacons scored in the win over the Eagles, led by freshman Grace Delmotte with two goals. Nat Friedman, Meike Lanckohr, Anne van Hoof and Eleanor Winants also scored in the win.
• It was the most goals scored in a game for the Demon Deacons since Oct. 2018 when Wake Forest defeated Appalachian State, 8-0.

QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 29th season. She is 386-204-3 (.650) during her tenure with the Deacs.
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad and welcome eight freshmen and a sophomore.
• Wake returns its top-three goal scorers from last season. Laia Vancells led the Deacs in 2019 with 16 points off six goals and four assists. Anne van Hoof netted a team-best seven goals and Alexis Grippo tallied five goals and five assists.
• The ACC is the only conference participating in field hockey this fall. The Deacs will play most ACC schools twice, with only one game counting as a conference match.  The NCAA Field Hockey Championship will take place in the spring.
•  Elisha Evans, Alexis Grippo and Anne van Hoof return for their senior seasons to lead the Deacs and were all three voted captains for the 2020 campaign.
•  Jen Averill is assisted by former Team USA teammates Melissa Gonzalez and Jackie Kintzer Briggs. It is the only all-female coaching staff at Wake Forest.
• Megan Anderson ('19) returns to her home turf as a volunteer assistant with the Demon Deacons.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
• Virginia finished the regular season 3-6 and 2-3 in conference play and has lost its last five contests.
• Laura Janssen leads the Cavaliers with five goals. In the cage,  Lauren Hausheer and Taylor Henriksen have split goalkeeping duties. Henriksen leads the Hoos with 30 saves and two shutouts.

LOOKING AHEAD
• The ACC semifinal match will take place on Friday and the Championship game will be played on Sunday at Karen Shelton Stadium. The fall season will conclude after the ACC Championship and the Deacs will resume play in the spring.
