WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's and women's golf programs will have two players from each team playing in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup at Bayhill Dec. 21-23.
The 2020 event was originally scheduled for June at Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland, but due to COVID-19 it was pushed back to December and changed to Palmer's winter home course in Orlando, Florida.
Junior Alex Fitzpatrick and sophomore Mark Power of the men's team will represent Great Britain and Ireland on Team GBI and senior Emilia Migliaccio and sophomore Rachel Kuehn will represent the United States on Team USA.
The teams were chosen in March based on the previous year of competition. Prior to being selected, Kuehn ended her freshman year short of being able to defend the ACC title with her teammates and compete for a national title but was second on the team with a 71.20 stroke average. She has since won the North & South Amateur this summer, along with competing in her first pro event (Symetra Tour) in October.
This will be Migliaccio's third appearance for Team USA at the Arnold Palmer Cup. She has been selected for the event every year since women were brought in in 2018 and was an early committee selection for the event this year. She is just the second American to play in three Arnold Palmer Cups and is coming off three appearances in Symetra Tour and LPGA events over the past four months.
Power, also cut short of competing for an ACC and NCAA title for the first time, led the men's team with a stroke average of 70.47. Fitzpatrick finished close behind with a 70.82. Power has since stayed in Ireland to train and compete in some of Europe's top amateur events, including a semifinal run at The R&A Amateur Championship in August. He also went into a playoff at the English Men's Open Stroke Play Championship that same month.
Fitzpatrick returned to Winston-Salem in August to train at the Arnold Palmer Golf Complex and compete in United States amateur tournaments this fall. He won the Golf Club of Georgia Amateur in October and finished inside the top 25 at the Maridoe Invitational that same month.
