
No. 19 Wake Forest Claims Blue Gray Classic Title

The Demon Deacons defeat No. 5 Princeton, 4-1, in the championship match while Chandler Carter earns tournament MVP honors
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 19 Wake Forest women's tennis team knocked off No. 5 Princeton, 4-1, to claim the Blue Gray Tennis Classic title.
The Demon Deacons (9-1, 1-0 ACC), who were runners up in the event the past two seasons, started the championship match by claiming the doubles point.
No. 11 ranked doubles team of Eliza Omirou and MC Meredith picked up their second top-25 win of the weekend. They defeated the Tigers' (9-2, 0-0 Ivy) No. 23 ranked doubles team of Frayman and Joyce, 6-2.
Saby Nihalani and Anna Brylin closed out the double point with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 match.
In singles, it was the Campana sisters who pushed the Demon Deacons to the victory.
No. 29 ranked Carolyn Campana dominated the No. 1 singles match dropping just five games en route to a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set victory over No. 17 Shvets.
After Omirou fell in the No. 2 singles match, Blue Gray Classic MVP Chandler Carter put the Demon Deacons one point away from the title. After dropping the opening set, Carter owned the rest of the No. 5 singles match. She won 6-3 in the second set and 6-2 in the third set to put Wake Forest up 3-1.
Just minutes later in the No. 4 singles match, Anna Campana clinched the match and the tournament title for the Deacs. She claimed the opening set 6-3 before closing out her match in straight sets with a 6-4 win over Schrage in the second frame.

In the morning, Wake Forest closed out its semifinal win over No. 31 Auburn. The Demon Deacons came into the day with a 1-0 lead over the Tigers after taking the doubles point Friday.
With the help of straight-set victories from MC Meredith in the No. 6 position and Chandler Carter in the No. 5 match, Wake Forest increased its lead to 3-1 over Auburn.
Facing the Tiger's No. 78 ranked Russo in the No. 1 singles match, Carolyn Campana got off to a fast start, winning 6-0 in the opening set. Russo responded to take the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6. The third set was close throughout before Campana closed out the frame 7-5.
She provided the clinching point for the Demon Deacons as they advanced to the Blue Gray Classic finals with a 4-1 victory.
