The Matchup
• No. 24 Wake Forest returns home to start a nine-game homestand, beginning with Appalachian State on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

• Mardi Gras Night - There will be a pregame Mardi Gras mask making for kids, and trivia throughout the game.
Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons were swept on the road by Long Beach State. Wake Forest's offense struggled, totaling just five runs and 12 hits over the three games.
• Wake Forest's starting pitchers continued a high strikeout pace. Ryan Cusick fanned nine on Friday night while Jared Shuster struck out eight on Saturday.
• Cole McNamee recorded a pair of scoreless outings out of the pen, striking out three over 1.2 innings.
Wake Forest Storylines
• Wake Forest returns seven starters from one of the top offenses in the country. The Demon Deacons led the ACC in scoring last year with 7.8 runs per game.
• The Demon Deacons feature a trio of preseason All-Americans. Bobby Seymour was the ACC Player of the Year a season ago, while Chris Lanzilli is also a returning All-American. Shane Muntz was recognized by the NCBWA as a second team preseason All-American at DH.
• All four of Wake Forest's weekend pitching rotation are coming off impressive summers in the Cape Cod League.
Opponent & Series History
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series against App State, 46-16. Last year, the Deacons swept a home-and-home. In Winston-Salem, a Michael Turconi eighth-inning RBI single was the difference in a 5-4 victory, while the Deacs battled back from a 4-2 deficit to win the meeting in Boone, 10-6. Chris Lanzilli went 5-for-8 with a homer and six RBIs over the two meetings.
• The Mountaineers are 1-5 this season and are coming off a series sweep at Kentucky. The Wildcats edged App State in 15 innings in the series finale Sunday. App State is batting .205 as a team with a 6.31 ERA.

• The Deacs continue their homestand this weekend with a tournament against La Salle (Friday), Brown (doubleheader Saturday) and Sacred Heart (Sunday).
