Former Deacon and ACC Champion Passes
2/7/2020 11:10:00 AM | Men's Golf
Winston-Salem, N.C. – Former Wake Forest men's golfer, Dennis Milne, has passed away. Milne was a four-year letterman for the Demon Deacons and won the individual title at the 1964 ACC Championships.
A native of Yardley, Pennsylvania, he came to Winston-Salem as a freshman in 1961 and graduated in 1965 as an individual ACC Champion and a key member of the 1963 squad that won the ACC Championship team title. The golf veins ran deep in the Milne family, as Dennis was a third-generation golf pro at Trenton Country Club in New Jersey. He took over the shop from his father, George, in 1971 and retired as the club pro in 2008.
The Milne blood lines might have continued but Dennis's son Andrew, who was already a nice player before his teens, died from injuries suffered in a skateboard accident in 1986. For many years the members at Trenton CC and those of the Wake Forest community have been raising money for the Andrew Milne Athletic Scholarship Fund. The scholarship goes to aid a member of the Wake Forest golf team each year. The most recent recipient of the scholarship is redshirt junior Charlie Kennerly. The Jupiter, Florida, native has been a member of the men's golf team since his freshman year in 2016.
In lieu of flowers, Milne's wife Bobbi and daughter Tracy have asked that donations be made to the scholarship fund. If you'd like to donate, please call Paul Kennedy in the Athletic Development office at 336-758-3875.
