WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest football defensive lineman Carlos "Boogie" Basham has been named the 2019-20 Arnold Palmer Award winner and women's golfer Emilia Migliaccio will receive the Marge Crisp Award.
Basham (Roanoke, Va. / Northside) is a communications major and is set to graduate in December, while Migliaccio (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive) is set to earn her degree in May 2021 with a communications major and journalism minor.
The Arnold Palmer and Marge Crisp Awards are given to the top male and female scholar-athletes at Wake Forest each year. Palmer, a former member of the Demon Deacon men's golf team, won back-to-back NCAA Championships in 1949 and 1950 as well as the 1954 U.S. Amateur. Crisp, a former Athletics Director and golf coach at Wake Forest, helped form the foundation of women's athletics at the University. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Marge Crisp Award has been won by a women's golfer, with current LPGA player Jennifer Kupcho taking home the honor in 2017, '18, and '19. Basham becomes the first football player to win the Arnold Palmer Award since Michael Campanaro in 2014.
Athletic Department officials at Wake Forest elect award winners from a long list of highly successful Demon Deacon student-athletes, both on the playing fields and in the classroom.

About Boogie Basham
-
Basham is the first football student-athlete to bring home the award since 2014 (Michael Campanaro). Over the course of the 2019 season, the Roanoke, Va. native has grown into one of the best players in the ACC. The 2020 Chuck Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Lott IMPACT Trophy watch lists member received preseason All-America honors from numerous publications after a breakout junior campaign. His 11.0 sacks in 2019 are the second-most ever in a season by a Wake Forest player and the most since 1992. Basham, a 2020 team captain, continued to show he is one of the most disruptive players in the nation against No. 1 Clemson in the season opener.
