Demon Deacons Open Season at Seminole Invitational
1/16/2021 9:53:00 AM | Men's Golf
Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team will open their 2021 spring season tomorrow at Camp Creek Golf Club in Watersound, Fla. For the Seminole Invitational.
The Tournament field consists of 10 ACC teams and will be the first time the Deacs are competing as a team since March 10, 2020 when they finished third at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach.
The Deacs were recently listed as the No. 9 team in the country and the top team in the ACC in the Golfweek Power Rankings. Junior Alex Fitzpatrick and sophomore Mark Power were listed as the No. 14 and No. 16 players, respectively. Both Fitzpatrick and Power represented Team International at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup at Bay Hill in December.
Course Information
The tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,159-yard Camp Creek Golf Club. The course was named the second-best course in the state of Florida by Golf Digest in 2013.
Camp Creek is enclosed in a natural haven of beauty that neighbors the emerald green waters and white sand beaches of Northwest Florida. The course offers undulated fairways and greens and drivable bunkers, with a view of the green from every tee box. Unlike the traditional flat terrain of Florida, Camp Creek is a fun challenge with few flat lies, and tiered greens that roll quick, but true.
Format
54-hole stroke play where teams play three rounds over three days. Tee times will start at 9:00 a.m. ET on Sunday and Monday morning from holes 1 and 10. Tuesday's final 18 holes will begin at 7:30 a.m. ET from holes 1 and 10.
From the Coach
"We have one of the best teams in the country right now and this tournament is a great way to open the season. We haven't competed as a team in quite some time and are excited to get on the course. This will be a great ACC test for us to kick off what will be a good year for Wake Forest golf!" – Head Coach Jerry Haas

Mark Power
Before returning home to Ireland in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Power led the Deacs during his freshman campaign with a 70.47 stroke average. He spent all of 2020 training at home and competing in amateur and professional tournaments on the European circuit, which included a semifinal run at The R&A Amateur Championship in August. He also went into a playoff at the English Men's Open Stroke Play Championship that same month.
Michael Brennan
After a cancelled fall golf season, freshman Michael Brennan is ready to make his Demon Deacon debut on the links. Brennan was the only Deac to advance to match play at the 2020 US Amateur in August and finished alongside Alex Fitzpatrick in a tie for fifth at the Pinehurst GCAA Amateur in September.
