Wake Forest Drops Season Opener to Oklahoma

Nava and Banthia were on their way to potential wins on the first and second courts when the match ended at 4-0.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 12 Wake Forest men's tennis team dropped the opening match of ITA Kickoff Weekend to Oklahoma, 4-0, in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday afternoon.
On the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, the Demon Deacons (0-1) were battling toward their first points against the Sooners (2-1). Eduardo Nava and Siddhant Banthia both had their matches end unfinished in the third sets.
After dropping the opening set to No. 69 Bieler, Banthia responded by jumping out to an early 4-0 lead in the second set before closing out the 6-3 set win over the nationally-ranked player.
Playing in the No. 6 position, No. 92 Rrezart Cungu also had his match go unfinished as play was suspended in the second set with Cungu up 1-0 in that frame.
In the No. 1 doubles position, Nava and Adam Ambrozy cruised to a victory, winning 6-1 to get the Deacs on the board. On court two, the Deacs combination of Banthia and Matthew Thomson were narrowly edged out as Oklahoma took the match, 7-6, and captured the doubles point.
