Wake Forest Heads North to Take on Boston College in Crucial ACC Matchup

The Demon Deacons will look to score another ACC victory on Saturday night when Wake Forest faces Boston College.

NEWTON, Mass. -- Wake Forest men's soccer will return to Atlantic Coast Conference action on Saturday night against Boston College at the Newton Soccer Complex. 

The match will mark the Demon Deacons' fifth road trip of the season. The Deacs currently hold a 2-1-1 record away from home. 

Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will air live on ACC Network Extra.

The Matchup 

  • Wake Forest and Boston College will meet for the 19th time in their programs' histories on Saturday night.. 

  • The most recent meeting between the two sides ended in a dramatic 3-2 win for the Demon Deacons this past March, as Hosei Kijima scored his first two career goals in the last five minutes of action. 

  • The Demon Deacons enter the match with a 9-4-1 record this season following five-straight wins over William & Mary, North Carolina, George Washington, then-No. 5 Virginia Tech and Loyola Maryland. 

  • The Eagles, meanwhile, hold a 5-5-2 record. Their most recent result was a 1-0 win over Syracuse on Friday night. Boston College's Tuesday night matchup against Merrimack was postponed. 

  • The Demon Deacons have a 3-2-1 ACC record while the Eagles are 1-3-2 in ACC League play. 

  • Wake Forest has recorded five-straight wins and outscored opponents 19-2 during that span. 

  • The Demon Deacons have not recorded a six-match winning streak since October 2018 when they took down High Point, Boston College, South Carolina, Virginia, Louisville and NC State in succession.

  • Freshman Julian Kennedy recorded his first career goal only to eventually chip in Wake Forest's first hat trick since the 2012 season.

  • Junior Omar Hernandez scored his fourth goal of the season in the second half. 

  • Sophomore Oscar Sears found his first collegiate goal and assist. Similarly, sophomore Colin Thomas scored his first career goal and provided two assists.

  • Freshmen Bo Cummins and Nicholas Mancilla also registered their first career assists.

  • Freshman Trace Alphin and redshirt sophomore Cole McNally combined for the shutout. 

Quick Hits

  • The Demon Deacons' attack this season has been led by senior Kyle Holcomb. Holcomb paces the team in points (16) and goals (six) as he is also tied with sophomore Chase Oliver and Kijima for the team-high in assists (four). 

  • His four assists are a new single-season personal best as well. 

  • Freshman Roald Mitchell has recorded four goals in his last five games with his strikes coming against William & Mary, George Washington, then-No. 5 Virginia Tech and Loyola. 

  • Junior Nico Benalcazar and sophomore Garrison Tubbs have accumulated the most minutes of action to date. Tubbs has been in the Starting XI for all 14 of the Deacs' matches this campaign. 

  • Tubbs has recorded the most minutes with 1,134, followed by Benalcazar with 1,080. 

Scouting the Eagles

  • Boston College ended the 2020-21 season with a 2-3-1 overall record and a 1-3-1 record in the ACC after not competing during the fall portion of the split campaign. 

  • The Deacs and the Eagles faced each other in Boston College's first game of the season. The Deacs found two late goals through Hosei Kijima to win in dramatic fashion at Spry Stadium. 

  • The Eagles hold a 5-5-2 record for this campaign so far. 

  • Boston College is 0-1-2 against teams currently in the top-25. The Eagles lost to No. 6 Clemson and drew with No. 20 Notre Dame and No. 13 Virginia Tech. 

  • Kristoffer Konradsson was named a third-team All-ACC selection. Konradsson scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Syracuse to give the Eagles their first ACC win of the season.

  • Wake Forest returns to action against Syracuse on Friday for Senior Night at Spry Stadium. 

  • The match is slated to kick-off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
