WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest volleyball team fell to the Florida State Seminoles, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Varsity Arena.

Andrea Fuentes orchestrated the offense with 27 assists and Kylie Adams chipped in six. Delaney McSweeney led the team on the net with three blocks and Kalani Whillock anchored the defense with 18 digs. Kamryn Malloy was right behind her with 10.

How It Happened
The first set proved to be the most competitive with 12 tie scores. Five of Franke's kills came in the first set and McSweeney, Slater and Malloy each registered three. A service ace from Malloy tied the set for the first time at nine. There were six more tie scores before Florida State called a timeout at 18-18. A kill from Franke tied it at 19 but Florida State was able to secure a 21-19 lead to force Wake Forest to take a timeout. Out of the break, back-to-back kills from Franke tied it once again at 21 to force a Florida State timeout. Out of the break the Seminoles were able to regain the lead and took the set 25-21.

Florida State started the second set with a 5-1 lead to keep the momentum. Their largest lead of the set came at 19-12 and forced a Wake Forest timeout. Despite two kills each from Chloe Wilson and Olivia Franke, the Deacs' comeback fell short, and the Seminoles took the second set 25-17. The third set got off to a similar start with the Noles taking a 6-2 lead to force a Wake Forest timeout early. The Deacs were able to tie it up at 13 with kills from Wilson, Malloy and Suess and a service ace from Fuentes. Florida State took their first timeout at the tie score and out of the break were able to regain the lead. Wake Forest got within two at 21-19 with three kills in a row from Suess to force another Florida State timeout. Out of the break, the Seminoles sealed the set win, 25-19, and won the match 3-0.

Coach's Comments
"Another tough one today. We didn't play at the level we needed to and we didn't execute when it mattered. If we want to win, we must find some consistency. We know what we're capable of, last weekend showed that. Now we just have to get out of our heads and do it every match. We have two tough road games this weekend so we will focus on the process and prepare for those this week." – head coach Randi Smart

Up Next
The Deacs get back on the road this week for two matches at No. 4 Pittsburgh on Friday and Virginia on Sunday.
