WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team is set to compete in the Landfall Tradition this weekend, hosted by UNC Wilmington.
Wake Forest has won the team title three different times (2007, 2008 and 2014) along with four individual titles (Nuria Clau in 2002, Nannette Hill in 2007, Dolores White in 2008 and Jennifer Kupcho in 2016). This will be the 15th appearance for the Deacs at the event.
The Deacs are coming off back-to-back team wins at the Bryan National Collegiate four weeks ago and the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invite two weeks ago. Both wins were by a double-digit stroke margin.
Junior Rachel Kuehn made history at the Tar Heel Invite with a course-record, tournament-record and program-record score of 63 in her second round. That nine-under-par day helped her finish with the third-lowest score in tournament history, 205, for the individual title. It was the third individual title of Kuehn's collegiate career. She was also named to the final fall watch list for the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel this week. Kuehn currently leads the Deacs with a 70.44 stroke average over nine rounds of fall play. She has finished inside the top 25 in every event so far.
Sophomore Mimi Rhodes is second on the team with a 71.00 stroke average over nine rounds. She has finished inside the top 15 in every event this fall and is coming off a T14 finish at the Tar Heel Invite. Senior Vanessa Knecht has finished inside the top 20 in both events she has played in this fall. She finished T17 at the Bryan National and T16 playing as an individual at the Tar Heel Invite.
Freshman Carolina Chacarra has her best finish at the Bryan National, coming in T5. She continued her top 20 finishes at the Tar Heel with a T16 finish. Grad transfer Virunpat Olankitkunchai has finished inside the top 25 in her past two appearances. She finished in fourth place at the Bryan National and T21 at the Tar Heel. Chacarra and Lauren Walsh are tied for third on the team with a 72.00 stroke average over nine rounds this fall. Walsh is coming off a T35 finish at the Tar Heel and will be playing as an individual this weekend. She started her season strong with a T8 finish at the ANNIKA six weeks ago and finished in 15th at the Bryan.
Wake Forest will be paired with Clemson and UNCW with tee times beginning at 8:30 off the first tee in nine-minute intervals.
