Wake Forest Falls in ACC Opener Against No. 10 NC State

The Demon Deacons dropped the ACC opener, 7-0, to top-10 ranked Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon at Wake Forest Tennis Center.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped the Atlantic Coast Conference opener to No. 10 NC State, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon in the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
Despite the defeat to NC State (6-1, 1-0 ACC), the Demon Deacons (4-4, 0-1 ACC) had strong performances out of underclassmen Casie Wooten, Anna Campana and Brooke Killingsworth.
Anna Campana and Brooke Killingsworth both battled their ranked opponents to three sets before falling to the top-40 Wolfpack singles players.
Campana came out and grabbed the opening set of her match in a 7-6 tiebreaker while Killingsworth came back in the second frame to win, 6-2, before eventually falling in the No. 3 singles match.
Despite losing the doubles point, the Deacs battled hard in the opening minutes of the match. On court one, Omirou and Carolyn Campana led 4-3 over the No. 2 ranked doubles team of Smith and Rogers before falling 6-4.

"It was a tough match today. We haven't been beat like that on our home courts in quite awhile. We were in matches at pretty much every position, but in the key moments, their experience and ability proved decisive. It was good to see what our line-up can look like with everyone available for the first time this year, and I think it looks promising. We have work to do, and a very tough road trip to Miami and Florida State next weekend. Let's try to get ready to play outdoors."
