Personal Bests, Top Finishes Highlight Deacons Performance at High Point on Saturday

Sophomore Alexandra Roberts placed first in the women’s javelin with a personal best mark of 55.69 meters that is currently ranked No. 12 in the world.
HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Wake Forest had six throwers compete across five events on Saturday at the Perry Palooza Early Bird Classic at High Point University on Saturday.
Three Demon Deacons placed first led by sophomore Alexandra Roberts in the women's javelin who recorded a personal best mark of 55.69 meters that is currently ranked No. 12 in the world. Sophomore Rachel Kern also competed for Wake Forest in the event as she placed second with a mark of 46.36m.
Other top finishers were graduates Michael Yow (men's hammer throw, 61.60m) and Elijah Shalaway (men's javelin, 61.45m).
Additionally, junior Andrew White recorded a pair of personal bests in the hammer throw (51.73m) and discus (51.33m). Wake Forest's lone other competitor was sophomore Jason Wagner in the shot put as he placed second in the event with a mark of 12.84m.
Saturday's meet marked the beginning of the outdoor season for Wake Forest, while the majority of Wake Forest's squad finished up its performance at the ACC Indoor Championships in Clemson, S.C.
